The Bronx are one of this generation’s most reliable punk bands: Walking on the beaten path laid out by hardcore bands before them, but making the aggression go down a bit easier with sprinklings of melody and accessible hooks. Every single one of their albums is self-titled and feels like a natural progression from the last one, with each album further refining their melodic hardcore formula. Their new album, IV, is a hook-laden punk rock party that hits the ground sprinting and barely relents until almost the end of the album. This is a recording of an interpretation of the oldest known melody, from 1400 BC, discovered in Syria in the 1950s. It’s pretty cool to think of ancient civilizations grooving out to some sweet Lyre tunes.
